Unattended Assisted Living Facility Resident Drowns in Tub

Case Summary:

An assisted living facility resident was left unattended while bathing and drowned in the tub. A subsequent investigation and autopsy revealed the resident likely tried to get out of the tub when she slipped and fell, striking her head against the side of the tub. The absence of staff and important safety features, like a hand bar, made it impossible for the resident to pull herself to safety.

Outcome:

The matter settled for a confidential amount.
