Every year, the Workers’ Compensation Section of the Philadelphia Bar Association (PBA) presents the Martha J. Hampton Award to an attorney or judge who best embodies the qualities that Martha held dear: a tenacious dedication to the ideals of Workers’ Compensation law and compassion for others. This year’s recipient of the award is attorney Patrick Donan.
The award is a tribute not only to its recipient but also to Martha, who was a Partner with Galfand Berger LLP before her passing. Galfand Berger LLP paid tribute to Martha at the award ceremony: Martha Hampton was a dear friend and law partner. This marked the first time since her memorial service that her legacy was honored publicly in this way, and the firm was grateful for the opportunity to recognize her lasting impact.
Martha Hampton was a devoted attorney who wore a cowboy hat in law school, drove a sports car before it was popular, and had a photographic memory so powerful that she became a go-to resource for colleagues.
Her quiet humility and fierce loyalty to her clients are qualities that continue to inspire the attorneys at Galfand Berger LLP. If Martha had any idea there would be a special award named in her memory, she would have laughed and shaken her head, insisting she was simply doing her job.
Mr. Donan has practiced law in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania since 1988. He focuses his practice on Workers’ Compensation, including matters in Longshore and Harbor Compensation and Social Security Disability. Mr. Donan has also been certified as a Workers’ Compensation specialist by the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania. There is no doubt that Mr. Donan is a worthy recipient of the esteemed Martha J.
