    Galfand Berger Sponsors HIAS’ Golden Door Awards

    Farhan Ali and Brooke Elmi attending the HIAS awardsOur firm was proud to attend and sponsor HIAS (Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society) Pennsylvania’s Golden Door Awards, an annual fundraiser that aims to serve low-income immigrants from all over the globe as they build new lives in our community. The fundraiser took place on April 20th, with the ceremony honoring those who lead the way in support of immigrants and refugees.

    HIAS PA’s primary mission is to support low-income immigrants of different backgrounds. The organization addresses immigrants’ needs through a variety of legal services in addition to an array of social services. From 2021 to 2022, for example, the organization served a total of 4,755 clients from 165 countries, providing 6,902 legal and social services.

    This year’s Golden Door Awards honored three well-deserving recipients: Nelofar Asadi, Blank Rome LLP, and the Mishkan Shalom Reconstructionist Synagogue & St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church. When Nelofar Asadi was just a teenager, she was ripped from her homeland. Despite her trials and tribulations, Nelofar has never stopped using her art and her voice to bravely fight on behalf of Afghan girls and women. Blank Rome LLP is one of HIAS PA’s steadfast pro bono partners. The attorneys and staff responded immediately to the Afghan crisis, providing representation to Afghan clients in their asylum, humanitarian parole, and family reunification matters. The Mishkan Shalom Reconstructionist Synagoguge & St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church.  represent the very core of HIAS PA’s mission statement, which is to welcome strangers from all different walks of life, ushering them in to our shared community.

    Farhan Ali, a Partner at our firm, is a Vice President on HIAS’ Board of Directors. Since joining Galfand Berger’s personal injury department in 2016, Farhan has worked on over 100 cases and has helped his clients win over $10 million in verdicts and settlements. Farhan has also been recognized on the Super Lawyer Magazine’s 2022 Rising Stars list. Farhan is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
